About Us

This is the personal site of Clint and Carole, otherwise known as Tex Van Winkle and Tex’s Girl. So what’s up with the nicknames? Hers should be obvious: I’m Tex, and she’s my girl. Mine is from my AOL days, back when I had a deep feeling of being a Texan out of place and out of time, something like the original Van Winkle. The feeling isn’t as deep anymore, but I’m a sap for tradition and continuity, so it stands. (And I definitely still have a strong hunkering to get away from the things of man.) We are both in the “nearing-forty” age bracket, which we plan to inhabit for quite some time, and live in the far north of Dallas, TX, which we hope not to inhabit for as long.

This site will ultimately be the central clearinghouse for things us. You’ve found the blog. Links are planned for a picture gallery, our various business pages, and to other family members’ and friends’ sites. These can be expected to appear at roughly the same pace Congress moves.

This site, these entries, are mostly for us. Many if not most of them will end up being private. We want a record of our lives, and we type faster than we write, though I must say a written record is far more poetic and I think we’ll be the poorer for not putting pen to paper as Mom has done for over fifty years now. (And far more legibly than I would do.) But in the end it’s that the record is recorded, that we leave more than just frozen photographs and sketches of personality for those who want later to know us, for whatever reason. If in the doing, some others out there—the world has grown so large, hasn’t it?—happen also to find something of value in it, then all the better.
