An Emergency Bunny
Yesterday, I was sitting at my computer, and Alexander came out of his room with a bemused look on his face. “Mommy, the Easter Bunny is an emergency bunny.” I was engrossed by whatever it was that I was doing, so he had to repeat himself: “Mommy, the Easter Bunny is an emergency bunny.”
I finally stopped, looked up, and said, “What?? What do you mean, ‘emergency’ bunny?” He said, “Look up ‘Easter bunny’ in your dictionary.” (I’ve installed a dictionary widget on each of our computers so we can look up words when we want to. We all use Mac OS X; if you don’t know, widgets are little tiny applications that are always running in the background, and you can pull all of them up together with a key click.) Anyway, I opened up my dictionary widget and typed “Easter bunny.” This is what I saw:
Alexander has been reading for less than a year, and I guess he had a bit of trouble with “imaginary.”
I didn’t correct him. There’s time enough for that, later. . . .
