Missing Kippy

Clint was supposed to work all night tonight, and he was already gone when Dave dropped the kids off, so it was kind of a quiet evening here.

While the kids were sitting on the floor, eating dinner and looking wiped out, Alexander looked up and said, “Mommy — I feel like I’m about to cry.” I said, “Are you that tired?!” He sighed, and said, “yes.” A couple of minutes later, Angelina said, “Mommy, I feel like I’m about to cry, too.”

Somehow, we made it through dinner and bedtime without anyone fighting or crying. Both kids looked a bit sad, and told me that they wished Clint was there so they could give him hugs and kisses. I told them that he wished he was here too, gave final hugs and kisses, and took Christina out into the living room. No sooner had I sat down at the computer than I heard Alexander knocking on the bedroom door. (Rather than yelling if they need us, they knock from the inside — it works.) Anyway, I opened the door and saw tears in Alexander’s eyes: “Mommy, I miss Kippy so much that I can’t fall asleep.”

I had just called Clint and gotten his voicemail, but I called again and this time he answered. Both kids talked to him for just a minute and said goodnight, and I haven’t heard a peep from them since.

They love their Kippy…. :)
