My search for the perfect cap
Clint has a cap. He loves his cap. He wears his cap all the time. His cap is starting to fall apart. This makes Clint sad. (Which makes me sad.)
For our anniversary, I decided that I would like to find a replacement for Clint’s beloved cap, before it is completely unwearable. I spent a good couple of hours searching the Internet and finally found what appeared to be an acceptable substitute. “Six-panel khaki cap with navy brim, unstructured crown, sewn eyelets, self-fabric fastener with antique brass closure.” Sounds perfect!
Unfortunately, when said substitute arrived in the mail, the “navy” brim was anything but. . . . (I would call it “light denim” or something of the sort.)
I emailed the lady I’d ordered the cap from, asking her if it was possible to get a photo of a “navy” cap from the manufacturer (because the sample photo showed forest green), and told her that I was wondering if there’d been a bad dye lot or something. I then went searching the Internet for photos myself. I found several sites that showed “navy” caps from this manufacturer and they all appeared to be much darker than our cap, so I emailed again, and told the woman that I was now very certain that there was a problem.
Clint actually didn’t seem to mind the lighter brim much, but:
-I’m trying to duplicate his cap for him, and this includes a DARK blue brim!
-during all this, we noticed that this cap doesn’t come down as far on the sides as his old cap did, so if we can send this one back because of the dye issue, then we can try to correct this problem too.
So, I’ve spent quite a bit of time online, trying to find a cap that’s an even closer match. Wish me luck: I may need it!
Update:
Andrea (the cap lady) sent us two more caps to look at to see if they’re any better than the first. They’re even farther from the original cap, so we’re going to keep trying.
She really is a nice lady: In the package with the hats, we found a burp cloth, along with a note congratulating us on the baby!
