October 1, 2006 - Angelina’s 6th birthday
A very leisurely morning followed by a hectic afternoon. The morning I already wrote about some. It was supposed to be more productive than it was, but I had a solid two hours worth of photos to do, while Carole went birthday shopping. She’d wanted to go during the week, but as with everything else she wanted to do during the week, it got delayed by pregnancy fatigue. Hard to shop when it’s hard just to get up off the couch.
But she came through with flying colors, even though it grounded her all evening. She found Angelina a purple and pink jacket (yesterday, actually), a pink blanket with satin on one side and fuzzy stuff on the other, and a princess nightgown, among the major items. There was also a Peter Pan video, some velcro ball-and-paddle games for both kids, coloring books for both, and others. Mom came through with candles for the cake (a white mini-cake that Carole correctly figured Angelina would think was cute), a bridal party of fancy figurines, and wind-up flipping gorillas for both kids. Oh, and Carole also found mattress covers and full-size pillows for both kids. It was a good haul, especially for what little money she spent. I love having a thrifty wife.
Dave had two conference calls (at the same time, no less) (on Sunday, no less!) (on Angelina’s birthday!), so I had to go get the kids. Unsurprisingly, Alexander announced when he saw me that he was sleeping at Daddy’s. Angelina was in the car in a flash; she was ready for Mommy. I told them Carole was working on birthday stuff in our bedroom, so they couldn’t go in there. This was cause for much excitement and whispered conspiring. They did well, only passing by to go the bathroom and giggling and acting like they were going to peek. Then when the haul came out, well…it was a good idea of Carole’s to put stuff in lots of different bags. Seven loaves fed a multitude. We had some cake, played with their stuff inside and out, Mom and Dad left, then Dave picked up Alexander, and we got Angelina put to bed. Carole was wiped out, so the spaghetti cooking fell to me. So we had soft spaghetti.
We ate while finishing The Mask of Zorro. That really is a fun movie. Then I cleaned up, Carole did text files, and now here I am, teaching Pandora my music tastes and racing to beat the laptop battery.
Ha. I win.
